Here are some of the “administrative” questions people typically ask when they’re thinking of using my services.
(If your question isn’t here, let me know and I’ll try to get you an answer.)
-
Are you incorporated?
-
Yes, I normally work through my own company,
Catchword Information Design Ltd, a British Columbia–registered corporation.
-
Do you use subcontractors?
-
Sometimes a team approach makes the most sense. I occasionally bring in other consultants to help handle large or complex projects, after consulation with the client.
-
Do you work through other consulting firms?
-
I often work through larger consulting firms, most frequently ITI International Technology Integration.
-
Are you registered with WorkSafe BC?
-
Yes.
-
Any security clearances?
-
I have the Canadian federal government’s Level 2 (Secret) clearance as of November 2009.
-
Can you provide us with references?
-
I can provide many specialized and general references on request.
-
Do you normally work onsite or offsite?
-
Either, depending on the nature of the work and the client’s requirements. I sometimes work entirely
onsite as part of a project team; on other projects I come into the office only for meetings.
-
Do you work outside the Victoria area?
-
For the right project, I’m happy to relocate. For the
kind of work I do, distance collaboration often makes sense. I have collaborated on several projects participants i
n different provinces and have even run remote focus groups.
I’ve worked on Vancouver-based clients and on a large pan-Canadian initiative. I’ve also subcontracted work to Toronto.
-
What about rates?
-
My rates are competitive and vary according to the skill level required for a job and my sense of the market. I may reduce my rate
for a non-profit client or on projects that assist with my professional development. I prefer to work on a straight hourly rate, but will
also take on fixed-price and capped-priced contracts.
